Reflections of an Octogenarian / Abridged version.

Religiosity? – Throughout life, I've never regarded this subject as deserving of any serious thought - - -
However, with quietus in the offing, the excessive religious coverage in the media inevitably agitates the neurons.
Of late, these irritations have provoked a deep re-evaluation - - - & has utterly confirmed my basic intuition!

Logical comclusions after a lifetime of listening inadvertently to broadcasters of religious 'Faiths'

Please acknowledge that the primitive mind was bound to generate, quite naturally, mythological imagery of an Elysian nature.
Also, one must accept that the relative ignorance of early Humanity, coupled with understandable fears of the unknown, provided those individuals seeking power over their fellows (a natural human trait), with the conditions to set up as Medicine-Men - - - Witch-Doctors - - - Sorcerers - - - Soothsayers - - - et al, all claiming to have insights & contact with a 'power' - of sorts.
So began the blight of Shamanism - - - leading on to airy-fairy religions.

As time unveiled the past, these facts have not been fully appreciated.
Result - The ensuing rash of religiosity has not been branded for what it really is - - -

An early conceive - of ignorance & apprehension - - -
Perpetuated through millennia by IMPOSTORS - Preying on credulous naivety.

The natural process of evolution, via many devious pious paths, has now landed us with the present crop of Archbishops - - - Ayatollahs - - - Rabbis - - - Popes - - - Imams - - - JWs - & a host of other hypocritical sect leaders, incessantly brainwashing the largely unthinking masses with their ridiculous & childish 'Holy Beliefs'. The Billy Grahams of the world, gifted with gab & showmanship, use their 'bewitching powers' to prey on the gullibility of the artless.
Yes indeed, in modern form, the Witch-Doctors are still at it!

It has always been decreed that acting on evidential communal common-sense, ie, utilising everyday experience & research, is the only way forward.

The need to consult Biblical, Qur'anic, or any other ancient crap-laden fairy tales
in order to pursue a decent & considerate existence beggars belief!

The facts listed above are beyond dispute – Deism? / Divinity? – Absolute Man-made hokum!

Any thinking person realises that the Universe is truly an awesome Quantum / Astronomical creation. As part of that creation, our attempts at it's full understanding seem futile. Fouling up our minds with a rag-bag of archaic religiose twaddle does nothing to help enlighten our ignorance!

Anyone taking this farcical subject seriously has to be absolutely pickled in traditional folklore and/or in a sad mental state. Using it's bogus validity for an easy living and/or monetary gain, it's impostrous practitioners must have no damn conscience at all!

Time unveils the Past! <<<<<

We must Profit from it! - Not Perpetuate it! - - - - A M E N

"Talk Reason provides a forum for the publication of papers with well-thought out arguments against creationism, intelligent design, and religious apologetics"

Dear Mr Davison,

Your letter suggests two possible responses: (i) If You are so opposed to religious or spiriotual topics, why have you, on your own account, spent
so much of your time listening to religious broadcasts? As, by your definition, such broadcasts are unintelligible gibberish the question reduces to 'Why have you spent so much of your life listening to gibberish?' (ii) Following from thr first response, the fact that you spend your time listening to what you believe is gibberish, shows up in your
letter, which is in itself a mere childish (seconds childish?) tirade at the beliefs of

But never mind if your mental meanderings soothe your path to that final quietus which you seek, theb I suppose they have served their purpose, even if they don not conform to the requirements od "Talk Reason".

Dear J. D. Lewis:

The quotation from the home page of Talk Reason with which you started your letter relates to the entries in this site's sections, but not to the letters from reades found in the "Letters" section. While essays posted in all sections other than Letters are chosen by using criteria spelled out in your quotation, posting letters from readers is usually done trying to
avoid any measure of censorship. We expect that our visitors understand that letters from readers present the writers's views and not those of the Talk Reason team (which also is true for essays, although in the latter case
the selection of which essays fit the framework of this site is much more rigorous than it is for letters). Letters are only not posted in such rare situations when they are either plainly not related in any way to Talk
Reason's scope of topics,or are written in a manner rudely insulting to other contributors.

Dear J D Lewis -

I have to say immediately that you have not read my comments re 'Religiosity' properly.

I certainly have not spent much time in life listening to these 'knowledgeable' preachers of utter junk. Note the words I used, 'listening inadvertently' to these people ie, when they form part of a another program, in this case, mainly the 'TODAY' program of the BBC's Radio 4.

This news, comment, & interview program is broadcast every day excluding Sunday from 6 - 9 am. The religious slot, covering all so-called 'Faiths' lasts around 3 minutes & consists mainly of largely common sense views but laced with constant references to a GOD & his works which I find most irritating.

Not much point in switching off due to the rather short time span.

And of course, these impostors regularly pop up at odd times in other programs enforcing their childish religious views. I constantly marvel at how so- called 'educated' people can embrace such obvious primitive 'bunk'.

Ever since early years, being taken to church by parents, I've always had a natural tendency to treat the subject as comical in the extreme.
The thought of my turning on the radio to listen to any particular preacher or 'service' is indeed laughable!

High time the Rt Rev Fred Flintstone & his cohorts dug themselves out of the Stone Age.

Please help yourself to some real Common Sense - http://hometown.aol.co.uk/bill45690/DE.html.

Dear J D Lewis

Your observations re my letter shows a lack of attention to essential detail.

Note my words 'Logical conclusions after a lifetime of listening INADVERTENTLY to broadcasters of religious 'Faiths'.

Your observation that I DELIBERATELY switch on the the radio to listen to these IMPOSTERS is way off the mark. That thought horrifies me. Religion was never on my agenda.

As I state, the excessive religious coverage in the media is very difficult to avoid, in all kinds of programs, especially news & related items.

Finally, may I suggest that my letter is entirely relevant to the Talk Reason web-site. My observations are the result of a VERY careful consideration of the beginnings & devious paths of all primitive religions. Far far too much time is wasted with this tangled tripe. We can live without it, easily.

I defy you to point out anything that my letter & web page states that is not the absolute truth.

Spirituality?

Pure self-satisfying fantasy!

Finally, I am certainly not seeking to soothe the path to Final Quietus. It'll come naturally. No one needs a GOD to help in any way.

2 pages of plain & pure common sense is at http://hometown.aol.co.uk/bill45690/DE.html.

Go on - have a look & get all of this religious rubbish out of your system.
